I now recall that after I finished the Vista “Upgrade Anytime” that it automatically re-installed the modem driver and this is when my audio stopped working. I hope a fix is in the works!! So, I skipped straight to the last step of getting rid of both the sigma driver and the modem driver, and when I rebooted, the computer installed BOTH automatically It depends on the processor installed. The computer you’re having issues with is running XP.. I have a dell inspiron with sigmatel audio.

But that seems a lot of trouble to go through, just to change the default device from the modem – or some other obsoleted and redundant device – back to the device which should be handling sound on the machine.

Sigmatel driver inspirkn Dell didn’t help. I have a new Inspiron and am still having this same issue. Up to Windows XP this was called “disable in current hardware profile”. I followed your path by uninstalling the drivers. I then uninstalled and deleted the ‘SigmaTel HD Audio’ drivers and aigmatel downloaded the latest drivers again from Dell. It depends on the processor installed.

Display looks gorgeous and system runs fast. Even before the recommended reboot the audio started working again.

The most common cause is the selection of the wrong – typically the modem – device as the default instead of the sound sigmatep. Next attempt was to uninstall and delete the driver completely from my computer and then download the latest driver from Dell. Beyond installing the driver on the Dell site I went thru 1e505 process 2 times just to make surewhat next can we try to help resolve this? Anyway, when I got everything back up almost nothing worked I found out why.


That really worked for me.


I installed it in a Latitude D which is the business version of the Inspiron and has much the auddio drivers. I too lost audio when I reinstalled Vista Premium.
